Prices

All prices shown below are per boat and will apply for the full duration of the season. A refundable security deposit of £60 is required per boat. For pre-booked boats we require you to arrive at least 15 minutes before your departure time to enable us to carry out our safety brief. Your boat may have been booked out after you so it is crucial for you to arrive at the correct time to ensure you get your full hire period.

PLEASE NOTE - Due to Covid-19 and Social Distancing regulations it is more important than ever that our customers arrive at least 15 minutes prior to you reserved time slot. This enables us to operate our business and control the number of people on our Marina therefore creating a safe environment for our customers and our staff. Late arrivals may result in a reduced time period for your hire slot. No refunds will be given.

FAQs

What are you doing to minimise the risk of virus transmission during the Covid-19 pandemic?

To mitigate the risk or virus transmission we have made some changes to our procedures.

We will only accept bookings through our online system. This can be in advance or on the day. We will be limiting the amount of people on the piers and will be setting boats off 15 minutes apart to help control the volume of activity at out premises.

We follow closely the guidance released from the Government and remain flexible so we can adjust our procedures as necessary.

Our overriding principles are:

  • Remain 2 metres apart wherever possible
  • Where the social distancing guidelines cannot be followed in full in relation to an activity, we have considered whether that activity needs to continue for the business to operate and removed those activities which do not. For those activities which must remain we are taking all the mitigating actions possible to reduce the risk of transmission between our staff and customers

Mitigating actions include:

  • Further increasing the frequency of hand washing and surface cleaning
  • Keeping the activity time involved as short as possible
  • Using barriers and ground markings to separate people from each other
  • Using back-to-back or side-to-side working (rather than face-to-face) whenever possible
  • Regular and thorough cleaning schedules
  • Enhanced hygiene procedures for our staff and customers including access to hand sanitizer at all points possible

Booking Terms & Conditions

Booking Terms & Conditions

Self drive day boats are offered for hire by Bowness Bay Marina Ltd (referred to in these conditions as ‘the Company’). Any contract to hire a boat with the Company incorporates the conditions below and is between the Company and you as the Hirer. ‘The Hirer’ includes all members of the party hiring the vessel.

All boats offered for hire by the Company are licensed by The Lake District National Park Authority and operated in accordance with the said Authority’s Lake Bylaws.

Boats are only hired to members of the public over 18 years old. Persons under the age of 18 are not permitted to drive self drive motor boats.

The Company reserves the right not to hire a boat to any person whom it considers is unsuitable to operate the vessel without explanation.

No liability to the Hirer is accepted by the Company for loss or damage to the Hirer’s belongings

No liability to the Hirer is accepted by the Company for injury to or death of the Hirer during the course of the hire or during embarkation or disembarkation. Hirers use the pontoons, quays and other landings on the Lake entirely at their own risk.

The Company will:-

Instruct the Hirer how to operate all safety and other equipment on board the boat and instruct the Hirer how to operate the engine but the Hirer uses the same at their own risk.

Ensure that the boat and its equipment are in a functional state during the hire and that there is sufficient battery power/fuel for the hire period.

Make available buoyancy aids for all members of the party.

Take advance bookings only on the condition that no refunds will be made unless the contract is cancelled by the Company in the event of high winds, bad Lake Conditions or if the boat is unavailable due to breakdown. Rain alone is an insufficient reason for the Company to make a refund.

The Hirer will:-

Pay in full for the period of hire before the commencement of hire.

Use the boat in a manner which is consistent with the rules of navigation and shall at all times take into consideration other users of the Lake whether in boats or not.

Not use the boat after dusk (no hire boats are licensed or insured for use after dusk).

Be responsible for extra hire fees if the boat is late in being returned for any reason except if such lateness is caused by failure of the engine or of equipment in the boat, in which case the Hirer shall be entitled to a refund of their hire fees in the proportion affected by such failure but no further compensation unless the Company has failed to take reasonable care

Ensure that all members of the party comply with these terms and conditions.

Be liable to the Company for all damage to the boat, its contents and equipment caused by the Hirer’s unreasonable behaviour or misuse of the vessel.

The Hirer shall not at any time during the Hire Period permit more than the maximum number of persons on board. If children are taken on board, the Hirer shall be fully responsible for their safety, conduct and entertainment. The Company shall not be held responsible for their safety. The nature of motor boating may render it unsuitable for a person with a physical disability or condition, or undergoing medical treatment. By signature of this agreement the Hirer warrants the medical fitness of all members of the Hirer’s party for the voyage undertaken and accepts full responsibility for their safety.

Return the boat after hire in the same state and condition as it was when it was hired. If the Company is obliged to clean and tidy the boat as a result of failure of the Hirer to comply with the Terms and Conditions then the Hirer shall pay the Company a reasonable fee for such extra work.

Boating can be Hazardous. While the Company has taken all reasonable care in the preparation of the vessel and in the provision of safety equipment, the Hirer is responsible for their own safety, the safety of third parties affected by their actions and the safe return of the vessel. The Hirer will be liable to repay the Company for any loss or damage to the boat or its equipment caused by the action or negligence of the Hirer.
